Tiger Tiger Burning Bright

Here is a wonderful tiger card that will surprise the kids. in fact it is easy enough for kids to make themselves.

WHAT YOU NEED

White card blank
Pale blue card cut to 15x12cm
light green card or paper
dark green card or paper
Tiger print foam (www.creativehands.com)
two medium white buttons
two small black buttons
double sided tape

Step One

Stick the blue card to the card blank

Using the template cut out the tigers face, nose and mouth

Stick the face down onto the center of the pale blue card.

stick all of the tigers nose and mouth onto his face
Use the white buttons for his eyes and then stick the black buttons on top for the pupils.
Hes looking good (ha ha)

cut out a wide strip of dark and light green paper. put the strips together and start cutting sections out to form long wild grass.
Stick the light strip down first at the bottom of the pale blue card. turn the dark green grass over and layer on top of the light green grass.

I have done the same at the top of the card only i have cut a few leaves in amongst the grass.

Cut thin strips from the black card and stick on tigers face to form the whiskers.

You should have one cheeky tiger.

You could adapt this design by adding a red tongue to the tiger. or a snake hanging from the leaves.

Beer Glass Template

Here is a beer glass template in three different sizes just click on the picture and print it out. couldn't be simpler.

Can be used to make a topper for your cards or scrapbook pages.

don't worry i haven't gone mad they are both different sizes so you should get six different sized templates.

Quick step by step instructions

what you need

brown card or thick paper
brown, and pale blue colouring pencils
white paper,
white parchment paper, or white handmade paper (scraps will do)
small piece of clear plastic (plastic pocket out of ring binder)
Double sided tape

* First using template cut out shape in brown card.
* use the white paper to make froth on top of pint
* use parchment paper to make bottom of glass

* draw the rim of the glass in pale blue
* draw small circular bubbles down one side of glass and perhaps a logo can be drawn on the center in brown also underline the bottom of the froth.
* to give the appearance of glass stick the clear plastic sheet over the top using very small pieces of double sided tape. and cut to the shape of the glass.

right i dont know about you lot but im off to make a card with my pint

How to post quilled cards.

I have been asked how i post my quilled cards.

If the design is quite a closed nit design for example

then it should be sturdy enough to go in an envelope

however, i prefer to use a card box. basically it comes in two pieces top and bottom and you can buy them from www.craftcreations.co.uk

then just to make extra sure i would pop that into a bubble wrap envelope and stamp handle with care all over it. (not that nobody ever takes notice) or you could just write it on.

That should make it secure enough to send through the post.

I hope this helps with your query.

Quilling tutorial - flower card

What you will need
quilling paper in purple and pink. i have used 3mm width
cream coloured paper
purple sparkly paper
and a tall thin cream card blank
Pva glue
paintbrush (old)
double sided tape
quilling tool but not really necessary

STEP ONE

first of all cut the quilling strips in half so that you have 17 purple and 9 pink.

Following the steps in the post how to coil make all strips into loose coils all roughly the same size.

forgive me i haven't got a scanner yet so I'm photographing the pattern. here it is

just click on the picture to make it full size so you can print it.

some people like to use patterns when quilling so that they get perfect size and shape. they are particularly useful when pining coils into position.

I will give a demonstration on that another day.
right back to the card.

To make a perfect petal shape you should squeeze together one side of the coil. some say it is best to squeeze where the join is but it doesn't really matter.

Rememberleave 2 pink and 1 purple unsqueezed as they will make up the center of the flowers.

Start gluing the flowers together by dabbing a spot of pva glue onto the bottom of the pink petals and stick to the flower center.

Massive tip: when sticking the pieces together make sure you lay the pieces on a flat surface and tap gently on the top

This is when the pattern comes into good use as you can lay the pieces on top of the pattern. sorry all the pattern is not at the right scale i will play around and correct it later.

I have glued each flower onto a 4.5x4.5cm square of cream paper.

basically all I do is pour a small amount of pva onto a sheet of plastic (a piece of none printed carrier bag is ideal) then i just gently dip the whole flower into the glue and dab of some of the excess glue before sticking it to the card.
Too much glue and the card will buckle, but too little and the flower will fall.

TIP:
it might be best just to glue each separate piece of the purple flower to the cream paper. otherwise it could get annoyingly messy.

Once you have all three of your flowers ready you can move on to step two

STEP TWO

Take the purple sparkly paper and cut that into a 5x16cm rectangle.
This can be stuck down to the center of the card blank using double sided tape.

and finish by sticking the flowers on top. also using double sided tape.

you may choose to change the layout to add text to the front of the card. which leaves you one flower spare for perhaps a gift tag.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
please give me any comments on how i can improve or what else you might like added.
if you have any queries then don't be afraid to ask.

Quilling pattern

Here is a quick tutorial for those that are new to quilling. I thought i would post it separate so it would be easier to find later on. Here we will learn how to make simple coils
(coils - tightly wound strips of paper)

COILS WITH A TOOL

place the end of the strip of quilling paper into the slit of the quilling tool.

Then simply turn the tool to coil the paper. i find that if i put my thumb over the top of the tool it stops the paper rising where and when it shouldn't.

Slip this coil off the tool and just let it unroll naturally. This is known as a loose coil.

and there you have your first coil.

You can buy boards with circles cut out in different shapes. these are handy if you need large quantities of the same size coils. you just drop the coil into the circle size you need and let it uncurl.

Make a few of these coils before gluing the ends down i use pva glue dabbed on with an old paintbrush.

QUILLING WITH FINGERS

Another tool for quilling is my favourite. Your fingers.

start by taking the strip between your fourth finger and your thumb and slowly roll them back and forth. until the strip forms a nice little curl then continue curling to the end of the strip.

That's about it for this tutorial. I hope it helps.

Quilling strips by the way are thin strips of paper that you can cut yourself or purchase from your local craft shop. they come in different widths and colours. I will teach you in the next tutorial how to make a quilled flower card.

if your really interested in this try janejenkins at www.jjquilling.co.uk
for further supplies. i could probably make a fortune with all of these links.
